Inner City Open Judo Tournament

Twenty four fighters from the Selkirk Judo Club competed at the annual Inner City Open Judo Tournament held at Tec Voc High School in Winnipeg on February 2. The tournament drew approximately 230 entries from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Ontario. The Club finished with ten gold, three silver and seven bronze medals.

Winning gold medals were McKenna Stewart in U12 under 40 kg, Parker Wilson in U12 Boys under 30 kg, Ottawa Hogan in U12 Girls under 30 kg, Lachlan Patton in U12 Boys under 33 kg, Carter Masse in U12 Boys under 60 kg, Danny Ekosky in U14 Boys under 66 kg, Sarah Ekosky in U16 Girls under 63 kg, Justin Ekosky in U21 Men under 73 kg, Damien Ekosky in Senior Men Advanced under 73 kg and Ian Heartfield in Senior Men Novice over 100 kg,

Silver medals went to Daniel Vasiliev in U12 under 40 kg, Kaya Leveille in U12 Girls under 30 kg and Joey Kuch in Senior Men Advanced over 100 kg.

Winning bronze were Cameron Pennell in U12 Boys under 36 kg, Kayde Totin in U12 Boys under 33 kg, Taylor Patton in U12 Girls under 30 kg, Lachlan Patton in U14 Boys under 38 kg, Daniel Vasiliev in U12 under 45 kg, Lennon Kuch in U18 Men under 73 kg and Bailey Malinowski in U21 Men under 81 kg.

“The Inner City Open is the largest tournament in Manitoba, and we had a good turnout of fighters from our club. Our team fought very well against some tough competition,” said one of club’s coaches, Brian Jones.
