Damien Ekosky Wins Bronze at Ontario Open Judo Tournament

Damien, Justin and Sarah Ekosky competed with the Manitoba team at the Ontario Open Judo Tournament held November 11 – 12, 2017 in Toronto. The tournament is one of the largest judo tournaments in Canada.

Fighting in the Senior Men under 73 kg division, Damien (18, black belt) finished with 4 wins and 1 loss to earn the bronze. There were 25 fighters in his division. His only loss was to Gabriel Juteau from Quebec in the semi-final. He came back to beat Orlando Horak from Montreal in the bronze medal match.

This medal follows his bronze medal performance in U21 under 73 kg at the Quebec Open last weekend. “Damien is moving up to be one of the top fighters in under 73 kg in the country,” said Brian Jones, one of the club’s coaches.

Justin (U18 under 73 kg) and Sarah (U16 under 52 kg) did not place in their divisions.
