Brandon Open Judo Tournament

Fourteen fighters from the Selkirk Judo Club competed at the Brandon Open Judo Tournament held on October 28, 2017. The Selkirk Club returned with five gold, five silver and one bronze medals.

Winning gold were Justin Ekosky in U18 Men under 73 kg, Daniel Ekosky in U12 under 50 kg, Damien Ekosky in Senior Men under 73 kg, Schaelyce Kopp in U21 under 57 kg and JZ Kopp in U14 Girls under 48 kg.

Silver medals were awarded to Bailey Malinowski in U18 Men under 73 kg, Sarah Ekosky in U14 Girls under 63 kg, Dylan Wiebe in U12 over 50 kg, Lachlan Patton in U12 under 36 kg and Lennon Kuch in U14 Boys over 66 kg.

Connor Macfarlane won bronze in U14 Boys over 66 kg.

Two fighters from the club, Ottawa Hogan and Taylor Patton, participated in the U10 age divisions, where medals are not awarded.

“Brandon was our first tournament this season and our team is off to an excellent start,” said Brian Jones, one of the club’s coaches.

The Club will next be in action at the St. Boniface Open on November 4, 2017. Meanwhile, Damien and Justin Ekosky will compete with the provincial team at the Quebec Open in Montreal on the same date. The following weekend, Damien, Justin and Sarah Ekosky will compete with the provincial team at the Ontario Open in Toronto.
