Justin Ekosky Wins Caligiuri Award – June 7, 2017

Justin Ekosky of the Selkirk Judo Club is the 2017 winner of the David Caligiuri Memorial Award presented by Judo Manitoba.  The award is presented each year to a promising athlete who displays positive citizenship skills, judo talent, courage, fighting spirit, and a dedication to the sport of judo in Manitoba.

“Justin has been a very dedicated and hard working athlete since he started judo in September 2008.  His commitment has paid off as he has risen to the rank of brown belt and has been a member of the Manitoba provincial team for the past two years.  This award recognizes his outstanding effort,” commented Brian Jones, one of the club’s coaches.

A few of Justin’s career highlights include:

  • Bronze Medal at the 2015 Western Canada Summer Games
  • Gold Medal at the 2016 Edmonton International Judo Championships
  • Bronze Medal at the 2016 Canadian National Judo Championships
  • Bronze Medals at the 2017 Pacific International and Edmonton International tournaments
  • Three time Manitoba Provincial Champion (2015 – 2017)
