Selkirk Judo Club Athletes Win Medals in Brandon

Fifteen athletes from the Selkirk Judo Club competed at the Brandon Open on October 22, 2016.  Fourteen of those athletes competed in the U12 and older age divisions and brought home 4 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze medals.

Winning gold were Damien Ekosky in Senior Men under 73 kg, Justin Ekosky in U18 Men under 73 kg, Sarah Ekosky in U14 Girls under 52 kg and Jzraelyne Kopp in U14 Girls under 44 kg.

Silver medals went to Bailey Malinowski in U18 Men under 73 kg, Daniel Ekosky in U12 Boys under 50 kg and Aaron Haak in U18 Men under 81 kg.

Winning bronze were Schaelyce Kopp in U18 Women under 57 kg, Lennon Kuch in U14 Boys over 66 kg, Nickolas Duschinger in U14 Boys under 60 kg, Dylan Wiebe in U12 under 45 kg, Carter Masse in U12 over 50 kg and Jersey Sundseth in U18 Boys under 60 kg.

Two members of the Selkirk Judo Club have been selected to compete with the provincial team at tournaments this fall.  Damien Ekosky will compete at the Quebec Open in Montreal on November 5-6.  Damien and his brother, Justin, will both compete at the Ontario Open in Toronto on November 12 – 13.  Selkirk club member James Colp has also been selected to attend the Ontario Open as a referee.   

The next local competition will be the St. Boniface Open on November 19.
