Damien Ekosky Wins Gold at Quebec Open Judo Championships

Damien Ekosky competed with the Manitoba provincial team at the 2013 Quebec Open Judo Championships held in Montreal on November 2 – 3.  The Quebec Open is the largest tournament in Canada (entries are capped at 850) and one of the most difficult, next to the National Championships.  There were 20 competitors in Damien’s divison - U16 under 60 kg – with competitors from across Canada and from the United States.

Damien went a perfect 5-0.  His matches were:

Defeated Nicolas Perrault (Quebec) by ippon (full point)
Defeated Maxime Toussaint (Quebec) by ippon
Defeated Laim Wright (USA) by ippon
Defeated Adrian Bernal (USA) by waza-ari (half point)
Defeated Mitchell Wolfe (BC) in the gold medal final by ippon

“This was the first major tournament of the season for Damien, and he put in a terrific performance.  He has been working hard in training and it is good to see that effort pay off,” commented Brian Jones, one of the club’s coaches.
