Selkirk Judo Club

Pacific International Judo Tournament

The Selkirk Judo Club had three athletes in action at the Pacific International tournament in Vancouver on February 16.  There were approximately 330 competitors at the tournament from across Canada, the US and Japan.

Competition took place at the Richmond Olympic Oval, home to long track speed skating at the 2010 Vancouver Games.  It has been converted into a spectacular multi-use facility.

Tanner Onagi was up first in U18 under 55kg.  Tanner beat Mike Clark of Saskatchewan in the opening round, a particularly satisfying win after dropping two matches to Clark at the Inner City tournament in Winnipeg the week before.  Tanner dropped his second match to a BC fighter and unfortunately also sustained a shoulder injury in this match which forced him to withdraw from the competition.

Julien Mitchell, at the tournament with the Manitoba provincial team, was up next.  He finished second in his U21 under 100 kg division.

Damien Ekosky competed in the U15 under 60 kg division.  He won 4 straight matches to claim his seventh straight gold medal of the season.

Julien Mitchell was up again in Senior Men Advanced under 100 kg.   After a well fought victory against Miguel Raymond of New Brunswick, Julien dropped his next two matches and finished out of the medals.
