“Fighting for Charity” Fundraiser 2012

The Selkirk Judo Club held its 13th annual “Fighting for Charity” Fundraiser in support of Habitat for Humanity on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at the Selkirk High School.  Members of the club participating in this event raised money by collecting pledges and competing in a judo team competition.  All proceeds are donated to Habitat for Humanity projects in Selkirk.

Twenty-three members of the club competed, while a number of other club members volunteered as referees, technical officials and event organizers.  Fighters were divided into seven teams and the teams competed in a double knockout, judo team competition.  The team of Jillian Berard, Katie Simko and Damien Ekosky won the tournament.  Silver went to the team of Connor MacFarlane, Hayden Bannerman and Franklin Martin.  The third place team was Ben Walder, Carter McCorrister and Justin Ekosky.

The Club raised $2983.00 for local Habitat projects.  Over 13 years, this event has raised over $31,500 for Habitat.  The top individual fundraiser this year was Aaron Haak, who raised $800.25.  Other top pledge earners included Loki Johnson ($527) and Bronwyn Morissette-Cooper ($170.75).
