2011 Eastern Manitoba Open

Fifteen members of the Selkirk Judo Club competed at the Eastern Manitoba Open in La Broquerie on April 9.  The Club returned with 7 gold, 3 silver and 4 bronze medals.     

Damien Ekosky collected his 7th straight gold medal of the year, winning three matches in the Boys (under 13 years) under 50 kg division.  Also winning gold were twins Brandon (8, yellow belt) and Jillian Berard (8, yellow belt), who tied for most points in the Juniors (under 11 years) under 28 kg division.  Julien Mitchell collected gold in Senior Men Advanced over 90 kg, Joey Kuch (11, green belt) won gold in Boys (under 13 years) over 66 kg, Brandyn Cassidy (16, green belt) finished first in Senior Men Novice under 81 kg and Riley Malinowski came out on top in Juvenile Men (under 15 years) under 42 kg.

Silver medals went to Justin Ekosky (10, orange belt) in Boys (under 13 years) under 38 kg, Steven Simko (12, green belt) in Juvenile Men (under 15) under 42 kg and Franklin Martin (18, orange belt) in Senior Men Novice under 81 kg.

Bronze medals went to Bailey Malinowski (9, orange belt) in Juniors (under 11 years) under 35 kg, Lauryn Kolada (10, yellow) in Girls (under 13) under 32 kg, Katie Simko (10, yellow) in Girls (under 13) under 40 kg and Aidan Stanford (9, yellow) in Boys (under 11) under 33 kg.
